I like this quote because it reminds me of the double happiness of gardening. first there is the enjoyment of the planting, digging in the dirt, of preparing seed pots and being in the sunshine while looking forward to the “fruits” of our labor. Then there is the enjoyment of the harvest. Whether vegetables or flowers there is a special feeling of accomplishment that comes from seeing the result of our efforts. Poppies are one of my favorite flowers to paint. These are painted using watercolor on ‘rice sketch paper’. The panel is then mounted on card stock and I added a strip of decorative paper. Because the paint is mixed directly on the brush itself, the flowers never turn out exactly the same (similar to our sprouting seeds) and also like the sprouting seeds sometimes what I expect to paint is not exactly as I imagined it would turn out. The element of surprise in both gardening and painting adds to the enjoyment of the process.
