Upcycled Christmas Cards Snail Mail

I love snail mail!  Receiving a card or letter in the mail lifts my day.  I will read and reread the message and then I file it away and go back to it at a later date.  It is fun to read again about what was happening in my friends’ lives through the years.  The births, marriages, successes are fond memories.  There are also the bittersweet reminders of those that are no longer with us, yet their impact on our lives lingers.  For many years (30+)  my most consistent pen pal was my favorite high school teacher.  She would share news about the school, the old town and her life’s happenings.  I still do write to her though she had a stroke about 8 years ago and writing is not easy for her. Her cards I keep whole and do not recycle. Those memories I want to keep a bit longer.

I made these cards from various bits and pieces of other cards I have received.  I also use freebies included in card making/craft magazines. The green Christmas tree was actually a stenciling project that I was not happy with so I covered it with the larger tree cut out that I drew on and now I like it much better.  Sometimes our projects will take their own path and if it is a less desirable result save it anyway.  It can be cut, glued, painted or collaged into a completely new project.

What are your happy memory triggers? Snail mail is certainly one of mine.
