As mentioned in my previous post, I have various old Christmas cards to reuse. This year I found another use for the various Christmas card fronts that I have been saving. I made a template as a guide for folding the cards. Though not all the cards are the same size I shifted the template around to fit each one and was able to use the same template regardless of the size of the card. To make a crisp, sharp folded edge I scored the card first before using a bone folder to press the fold flat. If the section that holds the gift card makes a deeper pocket than I prefer, I use a circle punch to make a notch along the edge of the pocket section. This notch allows the gift card to “peek” out of the pocket and also makes it easier for the recipient to remove their treasure. Twine bows close the gift card holders and add a bit of decorative texture to the gift. This also allows the recipient to reuse the card holder to either hang on the tree as a decoration or to use it next year for their own gift card gift giving. These can also easily be added to a package as a special gift tag.
I am already looking forward to the new supply of Christmas cards we will be receiving this year for future projects. What are your favorite holiday items to upcycle?
