I had an adventure this week going from my eye doctor appointment to a place I have never been to.
I am one those that needs to stop and think about which way is left or right. Directions have always challenged me! So in the car my passenger will say “my way” or “your way” if they want me to make a turn. Fortunately, it adds a bit of humor to the drive.
You can imagine what it’s like for me when the directions I print tell me to turn East or West! If it’s early or a little later I can sometimes tell by the location of the sun, unless of course it is an overcast day.
A few years ago while visiting my son in Texas I purchased a compass at a little tourist wood shop. I keep it in the car for times like this when I need to “go West” out of the parking structure. I discovered that it was ‘stuck’! How did that happen?
My next option was to ask someone, they looked up my location and said that I needed to go left. I went in the building to my appointment which was on the top floor and when I looked out the window I could see that turning left would take me to a dead end.
Time to ask again, this time I am told to turn right and then she gave me directions to get me where I needed to go.
So, back in my car a bit of prayer and getting help to have my phone recite directions I finally found that West is right and none of the directions matched the print out.
Thankfully the usually busy freeways weren’t and I made it home safe and smarter. Nothing like prayer and a person familiar with the area to get me back on the road .
Now I wonder if there is a way to get my compass unstuck.
