If you are asked to assemble a collection, what will you select and how will you display it? This is one of my art journal prompts. I chose two of my favorites. My chosen collection is food! How to display it is in a collage.
Why food? Because I love it! We are blessed to have a variety or flavors, colors, smells and textures in what we eat. There is also the variety in how to fix it; boiled, baked, fried (ok, maybe not too much fried) or even raw straight from the garden. Food is a great part of our day. Quite often after enjoying a delicious lunch we start planning for what dinner will be. If there is a special occasion coming up we start planning the menu ideas way ahead of time.
I love salads, it is fun to arrange a variety of colorful veggies in my bowl. I usually get carried away and end up with a larger salad than I originally intended. My salads end up being the entire meal instead of a side item.
So, back to the original question “What do you choose for your collection?” How about making a collage? To start you can tear images from magazines that illustrate your passion and arrange them as you like on a poster board, card stock or recycled cardboard. There is no right or wrong way to do this, just whatever speaks to you. The process of tearing and gluing paper is very relaxing and an activity that allows you to be lost in the moment.
Another fun way to do this project is to use a spiral art pad. Having a bound pad keeps all your artwork together to refer back to, similar to a vision board. When I use an art pad or art journal I place a sheet of waxed paper under the page I am working on to avoid gluing two pages together.
As always, relax and enjoy the process.
