This is a journal page I made using my ‘harvest’ technique. (The gathering of odds and ends in a cigar box) noted in a previous post.
The verbiage for the main verse is taken from the cover of an old church bulletin. I also use the bulletin pages to make interesting die cuts. I like the contrast of colors and print.
I especially like this verse because it prods me to move forward. As I noted in my journal, I cannot let past mistakes hold me back. I can learn from them and be thankful for my past victories and successes and move on to continue to grow.
I use gesso to basecoat my journal pages before adding inks, paints or images. For this page I sprayed ink through a stencil to make the blue background. I like that the ink bleeds under the stencil slightly resulting in a softer image. After adhering the main collage images I adhered my journal notes. The texture on my pages tends to be slightly rough so I prefer to write my verbiage on rice or deli paper first. I also use rice or deli paper if I want to add a sharp edged stamped image to my page.
What paper scraps do you save to recycle in your projects? Do you have a small box of ephemera waiting to be used?
I am not sure if the imagery on this page is complete. I might go back and embellish it a bit more after meditating on the verse longer. I enjoy this flexibility in art journaling. We can add layers, verbiage or images later as the mood leads. The page becomes more of a reflection of our life.
