This year I ventured out into purchasing gift certificates on-line. I am not an on-line shopper so, for me, this is really different. Now I need a way to “package’ them for gifting. These envelopes work perfectly, are quick to make and I can upcycle stuff from my scrap pile to decorate them.
Are you a scrap saver? I save various items from gift packaging to reuse in a different way than originally intended. Gift tags work especially well because they are already layered designs. Other items I save are cancelled postage stamps and the decorative envelopes too.
Various types of ribbons also work well. However, if it is a wired ribbon the ends need to be crimped back so the recipient does not get a sharp poke. I also do not recommend them on gifts for young children.
I found a package of jewel type finish envelopes in the clearance section of the office supply store. Because of the finish my inks do not want to stay put unless I also use embossing power. Acrylic paints work wonderfully and I do not have to do any additional prep before adding the decorative items.
Most of the toppers shown here are old, already used gift tags. Ribbons, doilies, sequins, buttons and torn papers add to the collage effect.
Now all I have left to do is insert the gift certificate, seal it and place it under the tree.
I am looking forward to seeing what new items I can replenish my stash with from this year’s gift exchanges. It is like receiving two gifts in one.
