Thanksgiving Celebrations

We are not into the usual traditional Thanksgiving celebrations. None of us care much for turkey and if we do have it we only like the white meat.  Though back when the kids were all home I did roast a full turkey, now if we have turkey I just need to bake a turkey breast.  Much simpler process and hardly any leftovers.

For years our Thanksgiving tradition has been to go to the movies early.   The movie is followed by lunch at a restaurant and our meal is followed by a second movie.  After the second movie we come home, put up the tree and decorate the house for Christmas.

Our day ends with a light snack like pumpkin pie, zucchini bread or popcorn while watching our first Christmas movie of the season and enjoying the decorations.  We have a few that are our favorites to watch every year. Of course last year we adjusted the tradition slightly due to the theaters being closed, it was still fun.  However, this year was totally different.

We started celebrating on Wednesday with a visit to the spa for massages.  Thanksgiving Day was spent enjoying the magic of Disneyland and Friday found us visiting Snoopy and the roller coasters at Knott’s Berry Farm.  The weather was beautiful.  We had a great time, plenty to do, lots and lots of food, games and rides.

Our last stop at Knott’s Berry Farm was the ice skating show.  It was the perfect close to the day and our little vacation.  Linus telling Charlie Brown what Christmas is all about reminds us all to slow down a bit and refocus.

Traditions are wonderful and sometimes having to adjust them is also wonderful.  Whichever holidays you celebrate I hope you have fun as you get ready for all the celebrations.
