I am using my long weekend to catch up with the yardwork and home upkeep stuff. Have you noticed that when you start a project all of a sudden you find a bunch of other ‘stuff’ that needs attention? Like the fence in the upper yard that is now sagging and will need to be replaced. I wonder when that happened!
I even washed the car, though I took a slight break from drying it once the rain started. It was fun to be out in the rain, my hair is slightly frizzy and my clothes a little bit wet. As rarely as we get rain, it was worth staying outside in it. Now a nice cup of hot tea with a jelly cookie have warmed me up.
While doing the weeding I was looking at the jade plant that I posted about last May. The one that I planted in my broken tea cup. It is doing wonderfully and outgrew the teacup quite some time ago. It has graduated from its humble beginning in the recycled teacup to a larger ceramic flower pot.
Though it is labeled as in indoor plant I left it outdoors along with the parent bonsai plant that has grown too large to continue being my dining room table centerpiece.
The elements outside have not harmed either plant even with a couple of nights of frost. They remain sturdy and growing.
Sometimes plants like these remind me of people that I know. Folks that have been hit hard by the ‘elements’ not only from this last year, but from life itself. They keep standing strong and growing. They left behind what could have been a setback, fought against the elements and moved on to larger things.
I hope this New Year brings us all a time of new growth, resiliency and bright adventures as we move forward. Be sure to spend some time in the rain, even if your hair gets frizzy.
