I grew these strawberry plants in a pot to keep them off the ground away from the rabbits.
We have always enjoyed strawberries though this is the first time I have grown them myself. When the kids were younger we would drive out to the strawberry fields and buy strawberries directly from the growers. I bought them by the flat and bought an extra one to eat in the car on the drive home. With 5 of us eating them, they did not last long.
Now that we have a local farmer’s market it is nice to have our produce without having to drive anywhere. I buy our strawberries there. However, now the family size is smaller so I can get by with a 3 pack instead of purchasing flat of them.
For this breakfast, I only needed a few so I picked these from our garden. It was an exciting first for me. Last year the plants did not produce as many as they did this year.
I sliced them up and added them to our waffles. They turned out well for my first attempt. I think next time I will add a few more berries to the batter. I might need to plant a couple more strawberry plants.
Next time I think I will add more berries and maybe some vanilla bean ice cream.
What’s your favorite waffle add-in?
