My reading journal for 2023 is set up and in use.
Reading is my nighttime ritual. I do not set a reading goal by number of books read. Instead my goal is to take the time to read daily to help me relax and go to sleep. Reading is my nighttime ritual. No music playing, everyone else already in bed, just me, my current book and silence. I love reading time. However, depending on the book, sometimes it actually gets me worked up, I tell myself “just to the end of the chapter” then I get lost in the story and realize that midnight is almost upon me and I am up too late. Not good when I need to be up around 5:00 a.m. Still, it is always worth the reading break.
A few months ago I purchased a reader to use in the car while waiting for my husband to do his errands. The reader is great for winter reading in the car when the days are shorter and daylight sleeps early.
Do you have a reading buddy? My reading buddy is an avid bookworm. We double our reading libraries by loaning each other books three at a time. It gives us the opportunity to read six books for the price of three.
We keep each other informed of library book sales, bookstore sales and she discovered books in thrift stores. Another advantage of having a book buddy is the variety of books available. We exchange books that are not necessarily ones we would select for ourselves. We introduce each other to new topics and authors. Often our discussions post reading get a little lively. We enjoy the story the first time we read it and enjoy it again in the sharing of our thoughts about it later.
In my reading journal I write any quotes that are meaningful to me and include comments about the book. I will share more about this in future posts.
Do you keep a reading log?
