I am working on a variety of hand painted magnets to include in some of my greeting cards as an added surprise. These small tiles from the home improvement store are the perfect size to use as magnets.
To prepare them I wiped a rubbing alcohol soaked cotton ball over the surface to remove any oils and dust. After they dried I used regular craft acrylic paint for the design. Gorilla glue attaches the magnet on the back. Note, I did need to use a little bit larger magnet due to the weight of the tile.
Now these hand painted magnets are ready for holding anything from day-to-day reminder to kid’s artwork on the front of someone’s refrigerator.
The pitcher and bowl cutouts are base coated with acrylic paint. The lettering is done with a fine brush. A few simple decorations complete the design.
At my art/craft shows magnets were a great selling item. They are the perfect ‘little gift’ that is both decorative and useful.
As you can see, the variety of magnet bases is almost limitless. And magnets can fit any occasion. They are easily tucked into a gift bag or a Christmas stocking stuffer. Because I was making mine for selling and did not have personal knowledge of the recipient I painted messages of encouragement and they were well received.
For the ones you paint you can make your theme specific to the recipient. Use floral and plant themes for someone that enjoys gardening. Food themes are great for the foodie in your life. Sports equipment, movies and other hobbies are wonderful themes that truly make your creations unique. And of course, words of encouragement are a nice addition.
These are all quick and easy crafts. I hope this gives you some ideas to add a special touch to someone’s kitchen.
