Christmas Card

Christmas Cards

I took a few vacation days last week and had extra time to make my Christmas cards.  Additionally, I wrapped, boxed and mailed the Christmas packages. This timing always works out best or me. It is less hectic when I have a shorter to-do list closer to Christmas.

Christmas cards are a nice festive way to catch up with friends and family that we do not see very often.  Here are a few easy ideas for making not only Christmas cards, but also cards for the holidays you celebrate.  The cards are easily adapted to your celebrations by changing the sentiment to fit the occasion.

For the featured card on this post I found the map used in the background in a scrap paper grab bag.  It is inked using a distress ink pad.  The die cut of the truck originally was white it is “aged” using the same ink.

Snowman Card
The background on this snowman card is mulberry paper that I rubbed a blue ink pad over. The ink brings out the natural texture of the paper. A squiggly drawn border and the die cuts complete the card.
Handmade, handmade cards, Christmas card, Christmas, easy, quick, inexpensive, easy crafts, kids crafts, Christmas crafts,
If you do not already have die cuts you can use cutouts from old cards and magazines as shown in this card. The holly pattern background is from a magazine and too flimsy to stand on its own. It holds up well when glued to a cardstock base. The calla lily is also from a magazine. The sentiment is rubber stamped. I added a simple border using a marker and attached the die cut holly leaf.

Background papers are easy to make.  Try inking over magazine pages or even over plain white paper. Wrapping paper scraps also make interesting backgrounds.

A fun and easy project is to use crayons, markers or whatever you have on hand to make marks all over either plain paper, torn magazine pages or brown paper bags.  If you have young helpers this is a great project for them.

Anything that withstands gluing and layering works.  When I use tissue or fragile type papers I apply the glue to the card base first and lay these papers onto the glued surface such as with the blue mulberry paper card shown above.

Whether you are making Christmas cards or celebrating a different holiday have fun with the process.  Maybe even make it a family night project.
