self-care new year

My family made sure that I have a self-care new year. Well, actually it will extend throughout the year. I get to start the year doing some of my favorite activities.  For home spa time I have cozy socks, lavender spray and lotion.  There is also lavender soap that is not shown here because it is in the shower. A eucalyptus candle to clear my sinuses.  I have a record of my favorite singer and of course chocolates!

I was going to wait and not indulge yet, but I had to open the tin to show you the nutty chocolates so I chose to sample them too so I can let you know that they are yummy.

For my journal and card making habit I received a new journal. What a cute bee and the journal is slightly larger than I usually have so I will have plenty of space for both writing and decorating.  I have new washi tapes and stickers and even a retractable fountain pen.

A decorated journal page is like an invitation to take time to write my thoughts and goals.

Ready to put the pen to the page.

The nice thing about ‘me time’ with my journal supplies is to be able to also use them to make cards for others.

The Christmas and New Year holidays are behind me, time to make thank you cards for friends and family. The cards below were made using the journal supplies noted above.

Combining the stickers and small images makes a colorful collage topper.
Art blog,
I like the soft look of this one.

Low cost options for your cards and journal decorating.

Basically, any paper that can be cut into strips or squares and glued will work for both your cards and journal pages.

  • Cut strips from magazines if you do not have washi tape for the page and card borders
  • For the images cut squares from magazines or junk mail
  • Use rubber stamps on scrap paper and cut out in various shapes
  • Wrapping paper scraps
  • Tissue paper provides a translucent type of image

I will post examples of these in an upcoming post. I have also posted additional examples on my Facebook and Instagram sites.

Have fun experimenting with different supplies. Be sure to have a self care new year doing what energizes your day.  Even a few minutes helps to lighten your load.
