Halloween time is almost here! The weather here has cooled down and the humidity has left us. I love fall and winter. I plan to have the fall décor on display this week and the Halloween cards are almost completed. The paper I selected for the pumpkins is a light weight mulberry type paper. I have a close up to show you the texture and fibers. Initially the paper was too thin for the die cutter so I folded it in half to cut two images at a time. This worked perfectly. If you choose to use tissue paper it will be easier if you also do two layers at a time.

The color is not what I want, but it is the paper I already have. It came in a pack of other colors. I added color to the die cuts using spray inks and acrylic paint. This is the first time I have combined the two and am happy with the results.

After the inks and paint are dry I use brown acrylic paint to add shading for dimension. These are the before and after shading samples.

What is your favorite Halloween décor theme? Spooky, cute, vintage? There are so many ways decorate our homes and our cards. Whichever way you choose it is often the small additions that lift your designs. For these pumpkins it is the yellow circles. When you compare the images that do not have the circles you can see they have an unfinished look to them. Likewise, the shading to define the inner shape of the pumpkins make a big difference.
Have fun with your designs and be sure to include plenty of chocolate. After all, it is part of the Halloween prep.
