Handmade thank you card

Thank you cards

One of the best after Christmas activities for me is making thank you cards.  This is especially fun when combining the new supplies I received this year with my timeless stash.

We had a wonderful holiday celebration, eating, having our annual ping pong tournament, eating some more (dessert this time) and exchanging gifts.  This year we also enjoyed a new game called “Flickin Chicken”.  It is a fun, active type of game that filled in the time while waiting for everyone to arrive.

I look forward to sharing ideas for projects using new supplies and updated techniques in upcoming posts.

Using ink rather than paint through a stencil allows the original pattern on the paper to show under the stenciled pattern

I like to use layers of paper, though sometimes this adds extra weight and bulk to cards that will be mailed.

To minimize bulkiness l layered the papers on this card side by side rather than stacking the layers. The butterfly and central rose image are stickers with clear backings. Stenciling onto the patterned paper adds visual texture.

I received a bookstore gift card and found floral sticker books on sale.  A very nice surprise.  The stickers are fairly thin and the perfect size to add to the thank you cards I am making. The white background shows more than I prefer, it can be shaded with ink to tone down the whiteness.

I used a different stencil for this card. The patterned papers are layered using the same technique as the rose themed card. I inked the edges of the floral sticker to lessen the sharpness of the border image.

For the blue themed card I first stamped the blue paper using a crackle pattern and blue ink.  Then I stenciled sections of the card base.

Rubberstamping
I like the visual texture going on with this technique of layering rubberstamping and stenciling.

The paper I selected for this thank you card was not quite large enough to cover the entire surface so I tore it in half and glued a section of a book page in the center of the card. A sticker from the floral book completes the design

For all the cards I used the same Thank you rubberstamp, though I could have also printed the verbiage instead.

I hope these give you ideas for using the supplies that you have on hand.  If you do not have stickers, magazine images are a good substitute.  They are light weight and can be glued down using a glue stick.

Wishing you all the best in the New Year and snippets of time to do what brings your heart joy.
