Easy techniques for handmade cards

Here are some easy techniques for handmade cards.  I often mention that you can use items other than your own drawn or painted designs in your cards.  I have various samples here to give you ideas for recycling your magazine and stamped images.

If you do not already do so, start saving random colorful papers to use in your projects.  This will give you a low cost paper stash to upcycle into colorful greeting cards.

These are the papers I selected for this batch of cards. The blue bubbles and the green/tan paper are torn from magazines. The orange paper with the floral design is a soap wrapper.

These small images will be the focal point for the cards. The pink floral image is torn from a magazine and glued onto a scrap of music paper. The dragonfly and poppies are my paintings.
rubber stamping design
This is a rubber stamp from the craft store dollar bin. However, at the time I did not have a plan for it, but figured I would find a use. I stamped the image on parchment paper then heat embossed it.

Gallery of completed cards below. I glued the images to the selected background and then trimmed the background paper to the desired size.  I outlined some of the papers with a marker.

The pink paper behind the floral/music image is a scrap of paper from a previous project.

These are poppies that I painted on rice paper, the background is the soap wrapper.

I am very happy with the way the shoe card turned out. It reminds me of a party or celebration.

I hope these easy techniques give you a starting point for your own card designs. And show you how you can take simple everyday items to make handmade cards on a budget.  I have been making and giving handmade cards for many years, the recipients are very appreciative.  Additionally, I have also learned a lot in the process.

If you have little ones you can also cut sections of their drawings to use in the cards. Perhaps I will show you those examples in a future post.

Have a wonderful week, keep creating.
