Quick and easy card making techniques

You might have noticed that I lean towards providing quick and easy card making techniques in a lot of my posts. The reason is that many of my students start class by telling me that they are not creative or artistic. Yet, we are all creative in our own way.  The problem is in sometimes comparing our own uniqueness to the uniqueness of others.

The “quick and easy” label removes some of the pressure from our creative shoulders.  Also, there is not necessarily a right and wrong way to the process once the basic foundation is completed.

Today I am experimenting with art tiles and dimensional paints.  The tiles are basically cardstock that has already been cut to size, they have a very smooth finish.  You can do the same technique with larger cardstock or even poster board, though the poster board will be thicker. Though I refer to them as tiles throughout this article, they are paper.

The tiles come in a package of 75.

This paint is different than the usual acrylic paint I use. The dots remained raised on the paper rather than spreading out. I do not have a specific pattern in mind, just random dots.

The colors are slightly muted because of the way I spread the dots.
The next tile I chose to do squiggles instead of dots and a more limited color selection. The end result is a little brighter as seen below in the yellow sample.

The third sample uses black first. Then I went back and added the other colors after the black was spread on the tile. For a final touch I added random lines with the dimensional paints and added foil to the tile that I will use for a birthday card topper.

The completed birthday card background is from deli paper that I use to protect my table when inking projects.

This project dries quickly making it easy to layer other colors without making your project muddy.  Also, the paper I placed under the tile to protect my table will be used in a future project.

Let me know how it goes for you and remember to enjoy the process. Each project helps to lead you to the next one.  Experiment and have fun.
