I am back to painting very small images (2×2) for these matchbook notepads. For me, the challenge with smaller paintings is in the shading and highlighting of small images so painting these small notepads is good practice. Because of the way the designs wrap around the matchbook cover a section in these photographs appears to be upside down. Once the completed design is attached to the notepad it shows as it is intended.
The surface of the matchbook cover is a glossy card stock that is easily decorated. If painting is not your preferred decorating method rubber stamps work well to decorate small items. You can also use magazine cut outs to do a collage. If using collage the bottom of the top cover needs to be left fairly thin so it will still tuck under the bottom flap to close.
Depending on the occasion and purpose these little notebooks are adaptable to a variety of designs. Their small size and light weight work well for hanging on a garland, wreath or Christmas tree. They are good for party favors and easily fit in a gift bag for an added surprise. They are also useful as a gift tag.
Making these gave me another idea for small images to be shown in a future post I have to finish them first.
