Here are a few ideas for quick and easy washi tape techniques suitable for cards or bookmarks. They are especially useful for those times when you need a last minute card or small gift.
Washi tape comes in a large variety of patterns, colors and widths. The tapes are also easy to work with and fit many themes.
This year, I used this background technique for the valentine cards I made. I ended up with quite a few extra heart cutouts and made extra cards to have on hand as needed. A heart card will brighten up pretty much any occasion.
To start I select my main image and then the washi tape color and pattern. Your image can help you determine how much of the card base you want covered with the tape.
When selecting the washi tape consider the background color you will be layering with. Depending on the pattern of the tape you use the background color will show through the unpatterned areas of your tape as in the center strip of the anniversary card above. Also the pink color is deeper on the teal paper background.
As I have noted in previous posts if you do not have die cuts available in your paper stash you can use a variety of magazine, napkin or even junk mail cut outs instead.
The collage card has a narrower side border because the collage is a busy pattern and I want it to be the focal point.
In addition to the papers noted above, this collage is layered with wrapping paper and napkin scraps. The bird is from one of my sumie practice warm up sessions.
