This is an easy mixed media greeting card technique. I made it as a Father’s Day card, continuing from my previous post.
In a previous far, far away post I shared photos of the items I purchased at a large resale store. I found grab bags of paper scraps perfect for collage and card making; and have had fun using up the items in the grab bags. The background pages in these card samples came from this paper stash. The book pages are a combination of dictionary and story verbiage. Sometimes I use gesso or acrylic paint to randomly add color to the page. Here I used watercolor, the sheer coverage allows the print to show. However, if you prefer to not have the verbiage readable you can use acrylic paint to add color. To break up the verbiage, I used two different pages. The narrow strip of color along the edge is a scrap of book paper. I added it because the first book page layer did not completely cover the front of the card as I wanted it too. I like that it has the illusion of a continuation of the left side of the card.To complete the card, the birds and sentiment are stamped. Additionally, I randomly stamped script verbiage over the book pages. This works well to cover sections of the original verbiage without completely blocking it out.
Depending on the occasion, this card will also look nice stamped with flowers or balloons. The white dots also break up the verbiage slightly.
Though easy, this technique takes a little more time than my previous post. I recommend preparing the book pages in batches ahead of time. That in itself is a very relaxing activity. Just adding color to paper, no rules, no right or wrong. Like coloring outside the lines, that is fun.
As always, take time to enjoy the process and discover your creative self.
