I work on my art and craft projects on a wooden table and though it is rather old, I like to protect its surface from paint splatters and glue globs.
Usually I use deli paper, large sheets of newsprint or filler packing paper under my works in progress. This time I used a rather large sheet of leftover rice paper. It fit perfectly across the width of the table. I used it to clean extra paint from my brayer, to catch the over spray of my inks, to remove the paint from my stencils and I also tested some of my color combinations on it.
After rotating the sheet each time I worked on a project I now have a sizable sheet of randomly decorated paper to use for my card backgrounds, gifts tags and as a unique wrapping paper. Combining all three of these uses makes a nice gift for the recipient as they receive a card and tag that matches the gift wrap. Well, slightly matches because of the randomness of the design.
It is fun to see what can be recycled as a table protector and then used in future craft and art projects. If you have brown paper bags available, they also work well. How do you protect your work area?
