Planners and journals

Are your planners ready for the New Year? I have always used a planner, so much so that when the kids were young they would refer to my planner as my “brain” book.

Over the years my planning has changed.  I no longer need to track piano lessons and multiple dental, doctor appointments, it is still nice to log my day-to-day reminders so they are not bouncing around in my head.

In the past logged had everything in one rather thick 3 ring planner. Now I split my tasks in two main planners.  One planner is my day-to-day ‘to do’ lists.  The other planner is for deadline and goal tracking.  I find this system helps me to have a better view of what needs to be accomplished.

There is also a third planner to log my daily Bible study thoughts and exercise tracking along with self-care reminders.

My habit tracker is a separate journal.  Keeping this tracker separate from my daily planner helps me to not lose track of the entries and allows me to see at a glance both my progress and the areas in which I need to nudge myself to improve.

I have a journal to log the books I have read and any quotes that stand out to me.  In this journal I also log any book titles that I want to check from the same authors that I have enjoyed.

Finally, to simplify food planning I have a journal to log my food and menu plan. It is a good reminder to stay on track with all the food groups.

I am laughing now as I am writing this thinking that it must sound as if I spend a lot of time tracking my life!  But, it is much quicker in the actual application than in the writing of it.

I forgot to note that I have a journal where I write random thoughts, dreams and gratitude’s. For me, it is a good way to relax and empty my busy thoughts.

What is your favorite way to organize your year?
