This quick heart craft project is a great way to use up small fabric scraps. I tend to save most of my fabric trimmings and snips. Fabrics as with paper are a versatile addition to my craft/art stash.
These hearts have a felt base. I cut various fabric scraps into strips of varying widths. The fabric is attached to the felt with fusible webbing. It can also be sewn onto the felt. If you do not have fabric scraps felt can be used. The hearts will be a little bit thicker.
If you want to make this project with children and prefer to not use an iron or needles, fabric glue is a good substitute. There is also a glue for felt that will work.
Once the heart base is covered with the fabric strips it is ready for whichever purpose you prefer. There are multiple ways to use these hearts so maybe you might want to make a bunch of them.
By adding a ribbon or twine to the completed heart, it can be hung as a decorative wall hanging. The heart can also be attached to a matching felt heart by whip stitching the sides and bottom. This creates a heart pocket that can be filled with small candies and or trinkets for gift giving.
The completed heart can also be easily attached to a blank card for any occasion. However, if you used felt for the heart instead of fabric your card will be much thicker to mail. It might need to be placed in a padded envelope.
If you end up having a few hearts left over you can string them together to make a colorful garland. Hearts are a fun way to decorate with all year long.
Enjoy using your fabric scraps to customize your hearts, any colors and patterns will work well making this an especially nice project to do with children.
