Collage Journal

This is a collage journal page using my ‘harvest’ technique that I mentioned in previous posts. To start the page, the background is painted using various foam texture sheets and acrylic paint.

Perseverance, the definition here is “persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success”.  Not necessarily and easy trait to have.

The main verse is recycled from an old church bulletin and the days of the week are from scrap paper.  I like having the days of the week noted on the page to remind me that it is a daily process. It is ok to need a perseverance ‘refill’ each day.

For me, it is fun to find images that have meaning to me in a personal way. I found a mini ‘Certificate of Award’ in my collage bits.  It is my reminder that perseverance has a reward.

I wrote various words that are similar to perseverance.  The verbiage is written on deli paper and then adhered to the page.  I prefer to write on deli or rice paper because it becomes translucent when I glue to my projects and the original base elements are still visible beneath the verbiage.

A dragonfly and butterfly image are included because both have a challenging beginning and they are images that I like.  Dragonflies go through metamorphisms before they can fly. The perseverance of the transformed caterpillar to fight its way out of the cocoon to emerge as a beautiful butterfly enables it to stop crawling and fly instead.

This is a close-up to show the verbiage detail and the dragonfly stamp.

Our own perseverance can lead us through difficult, frustrating, dark times and we also can emerge more beautiful and stronger than we stared out.  Sometimes we just need a reminder, journaling does that for me. What are your favorite images to include in your collage journal?
