This year our Christmas celebration was a bit different from past celebrations. We accepted package deliveries outside, made more trips to the post office and made plans for on-line gatherings. We delayed our gift opening to the 26th due to schedule changes. With grown kids that have kids of their own at home and other in-laws to visit, changing our “opening” date to match schedules has never been a problem for us. The focus is more on the gathering than the date on the calendar. There is also an added blessing of stretching the celebration by celebrating on different days there is no rush to have everything done on one day only. It is a slower pace that we have enjoyed in our gatherings over the years.
The big difference this year was in not having our multiple gatherings in person under one roof.
Though on-line communications cannot compete with the feeling of a warm hug, nor do they replace sitting around the dinner table together, they do still keep us in contact. We can watch each other open gifts, we can still share the joy of laughter, the gift of family fun.
This truly has been a historic year, one that we will remember for years to come.
My daughter made this ornament for various family members with different photos that were posted throughout the year pertaining to their family units. It is good to see the smiles and celebrations that we were able to still enjoy. Though we might not be able to all gather together under the same roof, we can call, meet and/or zoom from one house to another and be “home” together.
We had a fun day embracing the celebration in every way we could.
