Mother’s Day cards

My current project is making Mother’s day cards. I am using my hand painted images for these cards.  The technique is slightly different from my two previous posts.

In my previous posts I wanted the painted image to blend into the background.  Also, the images were fussy cut to help the edges not be as defined.

Rice paper, like tissue paper is delicate when wet.  I find that even stick glue will sometimes cause the paper to stretch.

Because the rice paper becomes translucent when glued, I glued my images to light weight cardstock first. This way the design on the patterned paper beneath will not show through.

The images are randomly arranged on the foundation paper. At first I could not decide which way to turn the page to photograph it. As you can see, my plan is to get as many images as possible on one sheet of paper.

The image is the focus. I added pink background paper to match the camellia. The background papers I selected are all softer colors to not conflict with the painting.

I especially like the pattern on this background paper. It appears to be radiating behind the butterfly. It reminds me of sunrise.

Magazine images can also be used as the central image if you do not have your own. Or, if you enjoy stamping, have fun experimenting with a variety of images.  The stamped images can be colored in or left as they are.

To make your own muted background papers try chalks, pastel inks or light watercolors.

I will share these examples in a future post.

Have fun creating, enjoy the process.
