I made a few laundromat connections after work this week. I rarely go to the laundromat. Only when the comforters need the dust washed off. However, when I do go I find it is an interesting place to meet people.
We did share first names, but I will not note them.
This time there is woman wearing a cute character hat. When I complimented her on it, she said her daughter bought it for her. She also complimented me on my complexion. And she mentioned that is it is important for us to take care of ourselves.
There is a man that enjoys singing. He does this loudly and sounds pretty nice. A toddler down the aisle decides to join in the singing. The man says he grew up with big brothers that did not want him hanging out with them. So, he’d stay home listening to the radio and singing along. He would like to sing in the church choir.
A woman is there with loads and loads (literally) of laundry. She mentioned that she goes weekly, but last week she didn’t feel like going. So, now she is “paying the price of her choice”.
The singing man finished folding his clothes, told us all good-bye and went on his way.
I finished next. Likewise, I stopped to say good-bye. After wishing all a pleasant evening, I headed out to get gas and go home. Feeling less tired than when I had arrived.
Now I am home enjoying our clean bedding. I smile thinking of the enjoyable time shared over laundry, with folks I have not seen before; nor will I see again. Even chores can be fun.
In a world with so much turmoil and uncertainty it is good to connect over the little day-to-day things.
Watch for them. Wishing you connections to lighten your day.
