Spring yardwork

The weather has cooled off enough for me to get back to my spring yardwork. The upper yard has gotten wild with the extra rain we had.  I had a fence installed a couple of years ago and the ice plant that was growing against it has died.  However, it happened in an area that is difficult to see from the house.  So, it has taken me a while to discover it.

I have noticed that when looking at the upper yard from the level of the house, it tends to appear more overgrown than it actually is when I walk up there.

Gathering my tools to go conquer the upper yard growth.

We have a double level lot. In the spring I usually divide up which area to work on. As it gets hotter in the summer it is easier to get both areas and the side yards done in one day. This is mostly because thankfully, the weeds slow down their growth in the heat.

This week, I attacked the upper yard.  It feels good to yank up the dead woody vines. There is a fragrance of damp earth beneath the dried up vines.

After pulling up the dead vines I trimmed some tree shoots growing wild. I will go back to trim it properly on another day.

I am finished for the day; the yard waste is ready to be placed in the green bin. All this yard waste will have a new life as compost.
Breakfast
And, I am ready for breakfast.

One of my favorite parts of yardwork is seeing the difference my effort has made. I also enjoy the exercise it provides, and the damp earth smell.

I am grateful for this chore. For the house with a yard to work in, for the gift of mobility.  For the quietness as I focus on being in the moment.

I hope you are having a good week. And that you are also able to find a moment of quietness to truly live in that moment.
